SADAF Island PU/Epoxy Internal & External Pipe Coating Plant

Introduction:

Development of oil & gas industries and the need for advanced pipe coating system have necessitated the main targets for establishment of polyurethane/epoxy pipe coating plant.

But, this plant has the capability to provide services for other industries in which steel piping systems (like water sewage system) can be used.

General Site Specification:

This plant has been constructed in a 135000 m2 land at Bushehr, and all the facilities are placed in a 2500 m2 saloon.

Storage area about 90000 m2 has been considered for bare pipes and the coated ones.

As the SADAF Island has no power network, the required power is obtained from 4 generators with the capacity of about 1700 KW. These generators would be work as spare emergency supplier in case when the Island connects to the global power network.

Plant Facilities:

This section provides services for its customers in 2 main parts:

 First Part: Stationary

PU/Epoxy stationary coating system includes internal and external coating line having the capacity for pipes of 711 to 3000 mm diameter and coating of 250 m2 per hour.

 Second part: Portable

This part includes the portable system for internal and external coating with the capacity for 150 to 1800 mm pipe diameter which could be moved & utilized all over the country.

All of the stationary and portable machineries of coating line are the most advanced ones, some of them manufactured inside the country and some others provided by foreign companies.

The required material used for coating of pipes can be epoxy or polyurethane depending on the customers’ requirement.

Coating Procedures:

A brief explanation of epoxy or polyurethane pipe coating are as below:

  • Inspection of Bare pipes.
  • Pipe washing (Thinner is used if it required).
  • Surface preparation (external / internal) by shot & grit blasting.
  • Final control of treated surfaces.
  • Coating of pipes by polyurethane or epoxy (internal/external). These operations can be done simultaneously or separately considering pipe diameter and material specified by the customers.
  • Final inspection by hand or automatic machineries.

 Epoxy coating according to AWWA C210-97 Standard.

  • Polyurethane coating according to AWWA C222-97 Standard.
  • Wet film thickness measurement test.
  • Dry film thickness measurement test.
  • Pull-off or V-cut Adherence test.
  • Hardness measurement test.
  • Cathodic Disbandment test.
  • Evaluation of surface salt test.

The coated pipes will be delivered to the customer after being assured of the conformity of coating conditions with above mentioned standards and tests.
